Do you think there will finally be a Dark Type Gym Leader in Pokémon Sun and Moon? There has yet to be a Dark type Gym Leader in a single Pokémon Game and with dark type Pokémon like Umbreon and Murkrow having an association with the Moon there could be a possibility! What do you think?
I think it's definitely a possibility, and I think and hope that GF has realized at this point that there is no dark-type gym leader, and that a lot of people want one, as they could be super cool. The amount of possible designs for a dark type gym are seemingly endless, because "dark" is a vague type description. This, of course, is all depending on how GF chooses to capitalize on another great idea. I'm worried that we won't have a dark-type gym leader again because of my experiences with them, as they DON'T capitalize on good ideas most of the time. Who knows, maybe GF thinks that the dark type is too good for gyms, and wants to keep them strictly to the Elite Four.
I won't be surprised if there's not, but it would be really nice. It's kind of becoming a tradition to not have one, and it's getting a bit old. They may introduce more dark types this generation (I'd be surprised if they didn't, with the title of "Moon"). Having a Gym Leader with the new Pokémon is always a nifty way to show them off.
Dark-types definitely needs a gym. According to the gym counts: Bug - 3 Dark - 0 Dragon - 2 Electric - 5 Fairy - 1 Fight - 4 Fire - 2 Flying - 3 Ghost - 2 Grass - 3 Ground - 2 Ice - 4 Normal - 3 Poison - 2 Psychic - 3 Rock - 4 Steel - 2 Water - 4 Dark-types didn't have gyms in any of the regions we have now. elite four does not count! So, it would be fair for the dark-types have a gym of its own. For other types, it would be fair if the Fairy-type has its own gym as well, despite being introduced to the kalos region. It will give out more ways to learn how to defeat this unique dragon buster group. Also, it only has 1 gym with this type. It would also be nice to have another fairy-type gym in my opinion.
With the new games being focused on the celestial bodies, it wouldn't be an understatement to think the games would put more emphasis on ' celestial types ' such as psychic and dark. Of course, you never know, dark could be passed over once again. But maybe that means the legends will be dark/psychic? What kind of Pokémon team would be in a dark type gym?
I actually agree with Satix. While not having a Dark type gym is becoming somewhat of a tradition and with one of the games having the name Moon, it would be great to finally have one. However, something inside of me tells me this is not going to happen. I think it's because it's the Dark type we're talking about: Dark is... well, dark. I can't really explain it, but my gut feeling is telling me GF won't do it.
I agree entirely. I'm not counting Karen or Sidney here. I have to guess this pattern has something to do with dark being called evil in the Japanese language of the games, but if that's the case, why have evil in the elite four, or why have any evil Pokémon in your friendship-powered game at all? And it's not like Dark isn't a tactically usable type either, if anything the least-capable type would be Bug, and there's an E4 of that type. It just seems so weird that dark has been excluded for so long, and as Satix said above, I won't be surprised if there is no Dark gym this time either. On the other hand, maybe Pokémon is in a mood to break tradition lately. No third entry of their main games of the sixth generation (still holding back tears of righteous anger here), adding another type so late into the series, expanding into non-Nintendo platform for PoGo. Maybe this will be another broken tradition.
Honestly, the whole moon thing of Sun and Moon could be referring to Fairy types, rather than dark types, because of moves such as Moon Blast and Moonlight. Although I would love to see a dark type in the very near future, I'm not entirely convinced that we'll see it. After all, there is not guarantee that a certain type will be included as a gym in every new game that comes out.
I can see this. Especially with the newly labeled fairy types in the Clefairy evolution line. (Mt. Moon anyone?) Though it might focus on dark, psychic AND fairy? It's a long shot, but maybe. Though after all the fairy hype in Kalos, I'd be surprised to see any more.
But... but Tate & Liza! Anyways, I definitly think the Dark-typing should have a gym. Even if it's known as the "Evil" Type in Japan, Giovanni wasn't exactly a nice person, either. The gym leader doesn't even have to be necessarily mean, either. There have been times a gym leader doesn't quite act like their type would suggest. Fantina is a good example. Jasmine doesn't seem like she'd be a Steel-type user, either.
If they introduce some new dark types it might just happen, but I think they're gonna keep up the tradition to keep eveyone guessing what the "deeper reason" behind it is.
I'd like to see a Dark type Gym Leader, and I'm guessing after all these years, we will get one! I'd like to see them as the last leader, with some cool new Dark type or an Umbreon or something. It would make sense for them to make a Dark leader. Pokémon Sun and MOON, and the moon comes out in the DARK. I think I might be overthinking this a bit.
While Dark type Gym Leader would be nice addition to the game, I'm not going to get my hopes up thinking that they'll add one. Another one fun fact about the Gym Leaders is that if you used the types that have 2 or less gyms, you'd have exactly 8 types. (Dark, Dragon, Fairy, Fire, Ghost, Ground, Poison and Steel) Sure, this is even more unlikely to happen than getting a Dark type Gym Leader, since apart from Poison and maybe Ground, the types aren't something that you would typically encounter early in the game.
This is probably a silly idea, but it may in fact work! Maybe one of the gyms will differ according to the version of the game. In Pokémon Moon version, there will be a Dark Type Gym, and in Pokémon Sun Version, there will be a Fire type Gym, or maybe even vice versa! Perhaps they create a type called "Light" which will be associated with one of those gyms.
It would be nice to have it as a new additional. As dark types often confuse me, it would make for a challenging battle. Just to get that level of ignorance about me, on dark types down, if only.
it would be awesome to have a dark type gym. it will increase the difficulty and will make it interesting
Since the game's theme is something like Light vs Dark (Sun and Moon), I think it's gotta have at least a Dark-type Gym. Maybe the 6th or the last Gym since usually the psychic/fight/dark type triangle is kinda confusing to new players, so having it in the beginning isn't a very good idea. I wouldn't be surprised if they pull another Giovanni if Dark-type is known as "Evil-type" in Japan. But hey, maybe they'll surprise us by making the Gym leader the sweetest, friendliest, and unsuspecting-looking character but when you battle them they send out the most vicious Dark-type Pokémon(s) like Tyranitar or something
I'm not too fussed about seeing one honestly but it'd still be pretty cool after all of this time without one!
